Hi all,
this is John Ryan, founder of RyJoLC; since 2009 when I set up RyJoLC I have had over 6,000 correspondences with students, parents and teachers as I offer study aids for Leaving Cert English for affordable prices and from this September I am planning to provide E-learning for free for students nationwide (and worldwide with the launch of RyJoLC’s free international newsletter last month which uses popular culture to show students how to write in different ways which currently goes out over 60,000 times in a school year to students in England and Ireland). To do this I’m seeking to raise revenue from other streams rather than charging students for online assistance as I have in the past. One way of doing this is to offer schools and teachers a specific set of new study aids which I am currently composing – these are sample answers and notes which students will not be offered (and have never been seen before, as I’m only writing them now!); they will only be given to schools/ teachers who sign up for these. These notes and sample answers cover all seven sections of paper 1 and 2:
part A: sample answers for the 2012 exam and new and updated notes on how to answer the three question types (on a text’s content, the written style of the text and the text’s visual style) that the student can be asked on in this section
part B/ essay: sample answers for the 2012 exam and new and updated notes on how to write in the five language genres that you can be asked to write in these sections
unseen poetry: sample answers for the 2012 exam and updated notes on how to answer the unseen poem and comment on the four elements of the unseen poem that the marker is told the student should focus on
comparative section: sample answers for the 2011/2 exams (to cover the three comparative genres) and new answer plans for the three comparative genres on the 2012/2013 syllabus, which focus on the specific three texts you are studying with your class
prescribed poetry: sample answers and new answer plans for the eight prescribed poets on the 2012/2013 curriculum
single text: a scene-by-scene summary of the play with commentary on how themes and characters develop, new answer plans for characters and themes and new sample answers
The notes are designed not only to provide schools/ teachers with a new study aid but also as said so as to allow me to provide students with free study aids and help for Leaving Certificate English, so if you are in fifth year going into sixth year, or a sixth year student coming to the end of your time in school, and you think the notes would be of use to your teacher please let him/her/your school know so they can contact me at ryjolc@gmail.com for further details and/ or to sign up. The second way of raising revenue is to allow individuals/ businesses to advertise in the notes, so if know of anyone who would be interested in advertising in our notes (such as driving instructors, tutors, individuals involved with the debs market etc) I would be grateful if you could let them know about the opportunity – for those who advertise with us through the 2012/ 2013 school year their ad will go out in every single set of notes we send out to students. If enough teachers/ schools/ advertisers sign up I will be able to provide study aids for all sections of the Leaving Certificate English exams (papers 1 and 2) for free throughout the 2012/ 2013 school year.
I hope your study is going well.
John
